Lead Scientist, Victorian State Government
Dr Amanda Caples is the Lead Scientist within the Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Transport and Resources. In her previous role as Deputy Secretary Sector Development and Programs Division she was responsible for the development of strategic industry growth plans across 10 sectors of the Victorian economy and for support of the Victorian science, innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystem (plus delivery of strategic plans for the transition of the automotive industry, government procurement reforms, small business and employment).
Amanda joined the Victorian Public Service in 2002 as the inaugural Director of Biotechnology before being appointed in 2008 as the Executive Director Science & Technology to drive Victoria's science agenda. In these roles Amanda has been responsible for major science and research infrastructure projects across Victoria's technology precincts, the negotiation of international collaborative R&D agreements and for stakeholder engagement on regulatory reforms.
Amanda is passionate about science education and has been a Member of the Board of Governors of Ivanhoe Grammar School since 2009 and is a member of the Advisory Board of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Integrative Brain Function, the Swinburne Business School Industry Advisory Board and the Monash University Pharmaceutical Sciences Advisory Group.
